Do you ever have trouble keeping track of your clients’ medications?
When we were designing Owl Practice, it was vital to us to ensure that mental health professionals would always have the information they need right at their fingertips. This philosophy became the foundation of how we set up client profiles.
When you enter a client’s profile, you will find everything you need to know about them, from their payment information to their family and other doctors (our Circle of Care system). The way we set up these profiles ensures that therapists never need to struggle to find necessary information. One of the features designed for this goal was our Medication Tracker.
When treating clients for mental wellness reasons, you must have 100% accurate information about their medical history, especially when it comes to psychopharmacological interventions. With the Medication Tracker in the Client Profiles, you can easily keep track of all past and current prescriptions for each client, creating a clear picture of their clinical history. By simply clicking the Medication tab in the Contact & Clinical section of their profile, you could see their medications, dosage, frequency, and start and end dates.
However, there were some disadvantages to this feature. The main drawback was being limited to several categories of drugs, such as antipsychotics, antidepressants, and anti-anxiety medications. You would need to type the medication into the Name text box and find a match to add it to their profile. That works well if the medication/substance was listed; if not, you were out of luck.
But not anymore! We’ve recently taken steps to improve our Medication Tracker, giving you more flexibility when adding information about their prescription and substance history.
Rather than choose from a pre-populated list of medications, you can now add ANY relevant medications to client profiles. We haven’t gotten rid of any of the categories or detailed prescription information. Rather, we simply added a new category: Other.
If you can’t find the substance, medication, or drug your client is (or was) on in one of the old categories, you can now choose “Other” and manually add it to their profile. This new category creates a tremendous amount of flexibility for tracking your clients’ treatments. For example, suppose they take homeopathic remedies that could have potential side effects or negative interactions with a medication you wish to prescribe. In that case, you can put it into their medication history. If they were using a drug that wasn’t prescription (or possibly even legal), you could manually input this information to keep informed about their medical history.
Adding this new feature to our Medication Tracker is just another way Owl Practice is constantly working to offer mental health practitioners across the country more features and options in managing their practice! As another example, just last year we introduced our Video Therapy feature, which rapidly became essential for many mental health professionals dealing with lockdowns!
We have many other new and improved features on the way, and we can’t wait to reveal them to you and the other practitioners who use our services!
